Dialectic Behaviour

Therapy

DBT is founded on dialectical philosophy which emphasizes that reality includes opposing forces which are constantly shifting and changing, and a change in behaviour can be brought about only when there is a conversation or dialogue between the two forces. Through DBT, the client is encouraged to engage with both sides of the contradiction, with the focus on acceptance and emotion regulation.

DBT embraces radical acceptance, which is complete acceptance of a client’s emotional condition, along with a purposeful changing process to help emotional dysregulation and environmental invalidation.
